Do you have a USB enclosure you can test? No amount of formatting or partitioning is going to help here. Put to other use, scrub & sold or melted down in Mount Doom? I say that's enough evidence to say that bitrot is real and has happened to me, but useless for predicting prevalence. his comment is here

Lastly, any thoughts on the WD Red Pro line vs HGST 6TB drives? The comment that "The models that have an annualized failure rate of 0% had zero hard drive failures in Q3…" makes it sound like it's for the 3 month period. HGST (and SSD) for production and NAS, Seagate for backup destination is a perfectly fine approach IMO. 0 Poblano OP TomMLS Feb 9, 2015 at 5:08 UTC They And as for "it must be you", what can anyone say to such an ignorant comment? https://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/29950-having-troubles-8tb-seagate-drives.html

If you prefer not to use the command line to delete everything use the GUI version and delete any disk drive/flash drive that was attached. cyrylthewolf @Damian Nowak ^BOOM. I have a customer that only uses Seagate and is currently running 1.5Pb on his network and these drives run 24x7 and are only turned off when the user is off If the board is an older model, pre- 2012, you may run into some trouble with larger sized drives.

  • Our 8K 100% Read/Write test the drive had a read throughput of 47,255 IOPS (CIFS) and 25,340 IOPS (iSCSI), over twice as high as the runner up.
  • In our max latency tests (CIFS), the Seagate Archive posted peak read and write readings of 3,712.8ms and 2,179.8ms, respectively.
  • Over the entire migration project (Q2 and Q3) we added about 900 total drives while gaining 32 petabytes of storage.
  • Hard Drives: Too many to list....
  • Direct wire is a must though, cause I expect to use em with SAS HBAs and expanders.
  • Thanks for scrolling all the way down the page.
  • You may get a better answer to your question by starting a new discussion.
  • To that end we created a backup job that could leverage the best qualities of an SMR drive and still offer protection against a single drive failure.

So, yeah, it's DEFINITELY the driver or controller that is at fault here. The HGST He8 HDDs completed its rebuild in 19 hours and 46 minutes. I exited it and re-activated a couple of times but it never gets past the "Connecting...." message. 8tb Hard Drive Nas Please make sure your important data folders and files are actually directory-viewable, program readable or viewable, program changeable [where applicable].

When performance mattered most, the Seagate Archive HDD didn't disappoint. Since the diagnostic, it restarted my computer and now the file transfers are going faster like it should do.

Pros Increase capacity at the same density and much lower cost Strong read performance Excellent burst write speeds Cons Lower performance in sustained write tests (as expected) The Bottom Line The Seagate Archive 8tb Review Try this... As you know, there are also storage systems that implement erasure coding on single nodes with large numbers of drives. If so, try that and see if you get better results.

Our next test (CIFS) shifts focus from a pure 4K random read or write scenario to a mixed 8K 70/30 workload where we will show how performance scales in a setting https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Archive-6GBps-128MB-ST8000AS0002/dp/B00XS423SC In this system we installed 8 Archive HDDswithout RAID and addressed them individually inside Windows Server 2012 R2. 8tb Hard Drive External Buy a consumer grade and expect a higher failure rate. 1 Jalapeno OP rogerwhaley Feb 10, 2015 at 5:41 UTC I'll never buy segate again, I had only 8tb Hard Drive Western Digital However, it appears that the Seagate 6tb drives you're using are no longer available, or is the "st6000DX000" a placeholder for something else?

how loud is that drive center anyway, with all those tens of thousands of drives spinning away. We’ll continue to track this going forward. In these scenarios each drive is able to be managed individually and write activity can be limited so the drive can perform at its best. http://extrawebsolution.com/hard-drive/hard-drive-external.html You will need to subscribe to the Backblaze channel to view the webinar, but you’ll only have to do that once.

Jani He may have come across rude, but he's got a point there, which you seem to have completely missed and instead even somehow took it personally. It could be a similar setting, have a careful look at all BIOS settings, read the manual. The average age of the Seagate 8 TB hard drives is just 3 months, but their 1.6% failure rate during the first few months bodes well for a continued low failure Seagate Archive Hdd 8tb Use the appropriate 32bit or 64bit exe file.

I personally just leave it all up to ZFS because ZFS has several design choices that make it work just fine to counter bitrot: regular scrubs, ability to repair bad blocks Com Ment Nothing wrong with asking 2 times for the same improvement when the latter hasn't been implemented. I'm guessing so, since the numbers don't jive for the 3 month period (drive count * 90 days). 3) Drive Failures, is this number of failures during the 3 month period http://extrawebsolution.com/hard-drive/external-hard-drive-won-39-t-boot.html Mean drive read or write bytes.

Is this just another WD product to avoid, or is there something else that could have caused the increased number of failures? Under the "Events" tab, I get this: Device SCSI\Disk&Ven_Seagate&Prod_Backup+__Desk\000000 could not be migrated. devicecleanup.zip Edit: If you have a powered USB hub available see if that helps I tried this and restarted the computer and once it was completely booted, connected the Where RAID has to read the entire drive to do a rebuild (a problem on an 8TB drive) erasure coding only has to read the data on that drive. @George sounds like

QFR = (Failures within Quarter) / (Cumulative Drive Days in Operation within Quarter) / 65 * 100 Possible statistics that would be helpful are: Mean drive failure point (e.g. 3.5yrs ). So I'm curious about your view on this. Looking for the tables, charts, and images from this post?

According to its description it shouldn't have this issue. Any drive can fail and the larger the drive the longer it will take to rebuild. Also, just to clarify, GPT is the partitioning scheme, and it's older counterpart is MBR. Their annualized failure rate compares favorably to the HGST 2 TB hard drives.

I chose GPT. Back to top #15 JohnC_21 JohnC_21 Members 17,367 posts ONLINE Local time:01:07 PM Posted 21 September 2016 - 03:07 PM Give Fatdog a try.
