Just yesterday, (10/1/2009) I attempted the update with the same result. You might skip a potential step by simply buying a new HD first and installing an operating system on it to start. I am not interested in anything on it - just get the drive back in use. And you can then "extend" C into that unallocated space. There is a free version and a "professional" version, for your purposes, the free version is probably all that you need. I have given a suggestion for how to troubleshoot that problem, and it's something I'll work on for myself. Then one day, they told me the computer just turned off itself abruptly while it was in use.

I opened the computer up and reseated the SATA and power cables, although they appeared to be connected just fine. It will probably be set to maximum.
