I understand that the saved registry files would not be affected by an application install. kimsland's advice “to keep a clean system, and continue to backup data externally, often” is also sound. Thanks again. I have also never reinstalled Windows XP or any OS on computers before, i would prefer a solution where i could remove the corrupting files manually and repair my Directory files So i would need a step by step method for someone who is not a tech expert, i've just been using Windows since 2 years and i have very below average
